Bretts Health & Wealth Programme
From the MD
It goes without saying that we hope that working with us is an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. So on top of your base remuneration package, we also offer a number of additional benefits as part of our vision for a "healthier", "wealthier" team at Bretts.
We aim to ensure all Bretts employees are aware of standard health risks so that you are able to make positive choices to reduce those risks. We would encourage you to take an active role in maintaining your health and quality of life and to this end we provide a number of free or subsidised health services such as health checks and gym membership.
And financial benefits like the loyalty programme and paid birthday leave are the ‘icing on the cake'!
We always look forward to welcoming new employees to the Bretts family.

What is the Bretts "Health & Wealth" Programme?
Health Checks
Bretts will pay for the entire cost of a thorough annual medical check up including full blood analysis for every full time and permanent part time employee. This is entirely optional and can be done on company time. On a case by case basis, we will also look at subsidising the cost of weight loss programmes as recommended by the check up.
Accessing the service
We would prefer you use the nominated medical centres to take advantage of bulk discounts we have negotiated and to minimise the time you are away from work, but this is not compulsory. (I.E. you can go to your own GP). Please speak with Elaine Martin, Bretts HR Manager, or your supervisor for more information.
Flu Vaccinations
Bretts will pay for one flu vaccination (on company time) per annum usually dispensed around May each year.
Accessing the service
We will advise you prior to the service being made available.
Gym Membership
Bretts will subsidise annual gymnasium membership to the tune of $5 per week. A subsidy will be paid annually in arrears in December in the form of a cash bonus on proof of payment and regular use (I.E. at least 90 visits per annum which is less than twice a week.)
Accessing the service
If you are already a member of a gym, in December each year simply show your supervisor proof of payment for the previous year along with evidence of a minimum 90 visits. If you are not a member, join up to the gymnasium of your choice, ensuring that they have the facilities to produce written evidence of your attendance. We recommend Genesis here at Windsor but if that is inconvenient choose another gym that is more suitable for you.
Quit Smoking
Bretts encourages all employees to quit smoking for their own health and well being. Bretts will reimburse up to $200 of the cost of any successful quit smoking programme.
Accessing the service
We advocate joining the "Smokenders" Programme which is run regularly in Brisbane at a cost of $495 per person. We have negotiated a special rate for our employees of just $375. "Smokenders" is not compulsory and Bretts will support any programme if employees can demonstrate they have quit smoking for a minimum of six months.
For more information speak with Elaine Martin, Bretts HR Manager, who has brochures and DVD's on "Smokenders" and can tell you more about the Bretts reimbursement.
Birthday Leave
As part of our on going programme to build a happy and loyal team, we have established a programme whereby we recognise your birthday each year in the best way we can think of - giving you the day off. Think of it as a ‘mental health day'!
Accessing the service
Simply fill in a leave form prior to your birthday, providing as much notice as possible, and hand it in to your supervisor.
Loyalty Programme
Bretts will pay cash bonuses to recognise length of service with the company on attaining five year multiples of service. Bonuses are available to all full time and permanent part time employees and will be paid around the anniversary date.
Accessing the service
Bonus payments should happen automatically, but please speak to your supervisor for more information about your entitlements.

Why do I need to adopt the healthier lifestyle?
Developing a preventable chronic disease in Australia has been attributed to nine key health risk factors: smoking, abnormal cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, unhealthy distribution of body weight, stress, depression, overuse of alcohol, lack of regular physical activity and insufficient consumption of fruit and vegetables.
It's been estimated that 92 per cent of Australian adults have a least one of these high risk factors (the most common being insufficient consumption of fruit and vegetables).
That means that 92 per cent of us are at risk of developing a preventable disease!
So why does Bretts help it's employees?
No doubt about it - the best employees are the happy ones. By taking a holistic approach to employee happiness we aim to make working with Bretts as enjoyable
and fulfilling as possible.
What's more, studies have shown that employees perform at their best when they are healthy and therefore it's in the company's own interest to promote healthy lifestyle options to our employees.
The bottom line...
The company will perform at its best when each of our people is performing at their best!
