Workplace initiatives to progress diversity and life/work balance at bretts

Mature age workers

53 percent of the Bretts workforce is over the age of 40 and 37 percent are over 45. Our philosophy is to recruit based on skills and experience not based on age. In fact some our best recent recruits in recent time have been over the age of 45.

Our Health & Wealth Program provides us with the tools to help retain our mature age workforce. Focusing on things such as annual medical checks and subsidised gym memberships offers our employees lifestyle choices at minimal or no cost.

Lifestyle - options

At Bretts both diversity and life balance are seen as a way to improve motivation and build a loyal and dedicated team. Our policies are designed around developing a high performing team and a culture in which people's differences are valued through the programmes we offer.

Flexibility is something we recognise as being fundamental to the overall wellbeing and motivation of our staff, and many positions have the ability to be redesigned to offer either part-time or job sharing options.

More than 5 percent of our staff are working on a permanent part-time basis in levels which range right across store staff to management roles. Many other staff members have opted to work more flexible hours. For example many office employees now work from 7.00am to 3.00pm, which allows them to pick up their children from school or to reduce travel time by missing peak hour traffic.

Our philosophy is that we are happy to negotiate any reasonable arrangement with our employees to improve the balance of the work and life commitments.
